Subtitle The Laughs & Tears Of A Holiday Home Owner
By Susie Kelly
ISBN 9780993307010
Category NON-FICTION
Winter 2015

Synopsis

The true story of the world's worst housekeeper's attempts to run two holiday homes in remotest France and her love/hate relationship with her guests. For somebody who hates housework with a passion, running holiday homes wasn't, with hindsight, a sensible idea. But two collapsing buildings on Susie Kelly's land would cost more to demolish than to restore. Thus she became a seasonal landlady.

Author's Biography

Born a Londoner, Susie Kelly spent most of the first 25 years of her life in Kenya. She now lives in south-west France with her husband and assorted animals. She believes that her explosive temper is a legacy from her Irish-American grandfather, but has no idea who to blame for her incompetence as a housewife. Susie particularly enjoys exploring the road less travelled, discovering the lives and events of lesser-known places.

Brilliant !!
Susie writes with such humour and passion, the reader is invited in and transported to the authors world. After chuckling my way through Swallows and Robins, I felt as though I had been a guest at her holiday home, hopefully one she liked.

Witty, charming, wryly observed, this is a great book.
My favourite of all Susie's titles. Laughs and tears in abundance. A lovely read.
Interesting, amusing and well written. I could not put it down.
Whether you holiday in gîtes or are just thinking about it this is a MUST READ book. Even if you have no previous desire for this sort of holiday this book will fill you with delight ! It's thought-provoking, insightful and a thoroughly good read from start to finish. Downside? I wanted the book to continue - perhaps a sequel? If you have ever run gÎtes youself so much of Susie's experiences strike chords and cause a chuckle or two in recognition. Susie Kelly's writing style is a joy to revisit or to encounter for the first time. If it is your first time it certainly won't be your last - I guarantee it!

Absolutely loved this book.
This book is both true and extremely funny at the same time. I have a gîte myself and some of Susie's visitors and her cleaner were very close to home. Susie has a way of describing people that bring them immediately to life.

Not many authors can make me laugh and cry. Very enjoyable feel good book.
Love Susie Kelly's books
A wonderful read: funny and honest and a revelation for anyone who's ever rented a holiday home.
Such a funny, funny read, beautifully written. The drawing of the character of Ivy The Cleaning Lady especially is a masterful comic creation (see the extract). That this chaotic woman existed is priceless...
