Excellent
Very interesting indeed.
great
A great read. This is a must read if you are really in to your history.
Just ONE word.... Excellent!!!
Interesting read. Good stuff
Excellent read
I cannot remember when I last enjoyed so much such a book! Except that it is hard to categorise it, as it surely is not 'just' a fresh look at history. Although it covers, in staggering depth, the histories of the two 'empires', the very human insights and amusing, and amazing, twists of history and language which liberally pepper this perceptive interpretation entertain greatly whilst maintaining strongly the argument of the central theme. I immediatley set to, to read it again as I had enjoyed it so much!
A really good read and highly recommended.
a great read
A fascinating book which made a complicated subject easy to understand. Some lovely anecdotes such as the Champagne was developed in London
thought provoking and (for me) much new insight into his topic - excellent!
A really outstanding read. Highly recommmended to all those who enjoy learning about american and russian history.
A really interesting read.
An outstanding read!
I really enjoyed this book and will highly recommend it to my friends
I found this book helped me to interpret historical events in a new and more critical manner. Mr Landers challenges us to understand issues that are often hidden ignored by the mainstream media. I recommend this book to readers interested in international relations and geopolitics. Not for readers looking for fun book to read on the beach !
I have always felt that there were quite a few parallels between these "empires" - now here is the sound proof!
A fantastic book and an enriching read, where the author has great vision and depth and has developed some beaitiful ideas based upon staggering research. Bravo!
Great book, on an interesting subject.
A first-class mind applied to the origins, development and seeds of decline of two contemporary empires.
One of modernity's most impressive conjuring tricks has been to magick away our grasp of historical context and perspective. With warmth and wit, Landers encourages us to regain something of our historically-informed common sense.
Superb book...
An entertaining and very accessible read, really absorbing.
Manages to transform what would otherwise be a hard core history lesson into a read that is utterly engaging and accessible
The key to one of the world's greatest struggles
Gripping read from cover to cover.
fantastic!
This is a stunningly interesting read. How what Americans and Russians believe about themselves has been built on myths and the re-writing of their histories. The analysis is compelling, the style is engaging, and the content is revealing.
Well researched and engaging even to a layperson.
A stunning work of rare insight. There is obviously more to Brian Landers than a financial spreadsheet!
compliments to brian landers!!! interesting, informative and a great read.
an interesting account of history, definitely worth a read
Excellent!!
a lot of research must have gone into this one!
This book has been well researched by someone who obviously knows his subject. Brian Landers deserves to do very well with it.
I recommend this book. Very interesting and kept me interested throughout.
a highly informative piece
this book is huge
This book was a great resource, very informative and interesting.
highly recommended
This is my best friends dads book, i want my dad to write a book! I hope you win Brian Clara
I was enthralled by this book. It is obviously well researched, but not academic (I hate footnotes getting in the way of the main thrust of the narrative). I also loved the asides which give the reader numnerous quirky facts along the way, and the well crafted aphorisms.
I like the style, the incisiveness of it all. The clear ideas expressed in short, sharp sentences. Daniel Pageon Director of Actors World Production Ltd Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists
Thsi book was the best book i have read i really enjoyed it and had a great ending
A well researched piece
Really interesting. A fascinating insight.
Extremely informative + an easy read = excellent!
Really interesting. A fascinating insight.
Thought this book was brilliant. Absolutely fanscinating but not one to read just before bed time!
An excellent book, combining American and Russian history into one. A must read for any historians.
Fabulous and sardonic take on America and Russia
